Read A Book, Live A Life is a service-learning project established through the dynamic collaboration between Hwa Chong Institution and LEAPFROGS, a speech therapy centre. Autism is a condition where the child is socially impaired and unable to interact properly with the society, often exhibiting inappropriate social behaviour.
Reading social stories is one of the preferred method used by speech therapists to ��open up�� these children��s mind. This project involves creating a collection of social stories in English and Chinese with full illustrations and reading them to the autistic children at LEAPFROGS, coupled with various approaches such as scheduling, sketch and tell, and role-playing. Since November 2006, the project group has been working closely with children at LEAPFROGS.
